Why I said it strange ?, it because of not usually ways like wrote in TOEFL book or other English book , I found it by myself. Here the ways :
First, buy unoriginal films or movie. In Indonesia there are many unoriginal film. It’s greater than original film. I’m not mean to broke the law, but it was really help my English. Because if you watch unoriginal film, you will not get the subtitle. So while you watching you have to read to dictionary. It will rich your vocabulary. Not only your listening will improve, but you will also learn how they speak, you know, speaking is one of the most important part in English. So, after you watch a film, remember the word and try to pronounce it. If you don’t have much money, and you are college student, it’s okey, because you still can get the film, and the film that you will get, more than if you use your money. The way to get it is with internet. In Unsyiah and MIPA we have internet connection, so you just have to sit in campus for hours and download the movies or films. I suggest to watch these film, because beside the stories are interesting the pronunciation is good, so it easy to understand what the actors or actress said. They are Alvin and the chipmunks, beautiful mind, journey to the center of the earth, upin dan ipin, vantage point, surf up. You can get the film by download in internet. Just click at the name of the film.
Second, listen to west music. I’m not mean to be a traitor because not suggest to listen Indonesian music, but we have to improve our English, so we can improve our knowledge and we will built this country to the better future. It’s my dream.So if wanna catch your dream, you have to study hard and don’t forget to study smart. This way is one of the way to study smart.After you listen to a song, try to to find out the meaning, so it can rich your vocabulary and don’t forget to practice the words. There are many good songs to listen. Again use the internet connection in your campus to download the song. But if you want to get the original song, please visit music store closest to your home.
Third is try talk to yourself, again its sound strange. But after watching unoriginal films, after listening west song, you have to practice the word that you have remembered, and practice the pronunciation. I used to do it till now. Sometimes if you angry to yourself, because of you did something wrong or you get bad mark and you must feel regret. Positive way to make it better is talk to yourself but in English. Why you did that, or why you weren’t study or why you weren’t think before did that. Talk to yourself, but don’t do it in canteen or market or in a bus, people around you will say, you are insane. And don’t try in bathroom because its impolite but try to talk in the way you go to campus, student usually use their motorcycle to campus. no one will hear your voice while you are riding your motorcycle.
There were my way to improve my ability in English, I just want to share it to you. You should to practice it but if these ways didn’t give any advantage to you, you must try other way in other articles or books. Just never give up !!
